The Common Application has published the personal essay prompts for the 2026–2027 cycle. Because the prompts are unchanged, it is easier to start work on the essay early, though the prompt itself is only one part of a much bigger application.
One platform, different requirements
Colleges set their own supplemental questions, testing policy, recommendation requirements and deadlines. Filling in one shared form therefore does not replace checking each college on your final list separately.

How to divide the work
The personal essay, the Activities section and the Profile section can be prepared as a single core. The supplemental answers need separate work: each has to connect to that particular college, and should not repeat what has already been said without good reason.
